History
Early Days of Detroit Biking
Wolverines Sports Club
The Wolverine Wheelmen originated in 1937 according to a 1975 publication of Oakland County on bicycling, including local history. Mike “Waldon” was a contributor. In the mid-1950s the club took on its current name.
We have found no evidence that the club begin in 1888 in Detroit besides a brochure they produced around 2000. The Wolverine Bicycle Club of 1882 became the Meteor Bicycle Club within a year. The dominant Detroit clubs of that era were the Detroit, Meteor, and Star Bicycle Clubs which all merged in 1890 to become the Detroit Wheelmen. They is no club lineage between this club and the Wolverines.
